Underwords - The Hidden City - Anthology

The Booktrust London Short Story Competition Anthology

London has always had a chameleon quality, revealing itself in a multitude of different guises, each as individual as the dreams and aspirations of its many inhabitants. The theme of this collection is the hidden city, and each of these fourteen stories vividly expresses a different mood and aspect of the city, and the undercurrents of emotion which surge through the capital - the irrepressible mixture of excitement or tension, fear or freedom.

This is the sixth anthology to result from the biennial London Short Story competition, now run by Booktrust. The collection features the six winning stories by previously unpublished writers, together with specially commissioned work about London by some of our finest contemporary writers: Diran Adebayo, Nicola Barker, Romesh Gunesekera, Hanif Kureishi, Sarah Hall, Andrea Levy, Patrick Neate and Alex Wheatle.

'Affirms the role of London as an enduring muse for the writers who live in it' - Claire Allfree, Metro London
